To green India’s real estate industry and make it more competent, the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (Credai) has formed a partnership with Adani Cement to implement large-scale sustainability and worker development programs.
Announced on Friday, the tie-up will see Adani Cement become Credai’s preferred partner for GRIHA-certified construction materials, including green concrete and technical additives. The company will also provide on-site technical support and training to engineers and construction workers across Credai’s national developer network.
At the core of the alliance are two newly launched organizations — the Green India Council and the Skilling Council — that both focus on instilling long-term sustainability and professionalism into the real estate environment.
The Green India Council will lead efforts such as reforestation, urban forest development, landscaping public areas, and the promotion of green building codes across the country.
The partnership is in line with our vision of creating a greener, smarter future city,” Adani Group CEO – Cement Business Vinod Bahety said. “We want to drive faster adoption of green cement technology across India’s building industry together with Credai.
Meanwhile, the Skilling Council will focus on addressing deep-rooted workforce challenges that continue to hamper productivity and site safety in the sector. Backed by Credai’s state chapters, the council aims to train thousands of workers over the next five years.
The first leg of the skilling program will kick off by mid-July 2025, targeting over 15,000 construction workers across 25 cities.
Credai, which has over 13,000 private developers across the country as its members, stated the partnership demonstrates the commitment to responsible growth.”These efforts are a significant milestone in bringing India’s real estate growth in harmony with environmental management and inclusive development,” stated Credai President Shekhar Patel.
With the industry being among India’s highest employment drivers, but suffering from skill deficiencies, the collaborative effort is being viewed as a timely intervention before the next cycle of real estate growth.
