With a renewed focus on strengthening regional air connectivity, the Centre has stepped up efforts to fast-track multiple airport infrastructure projects across Telangana. The development is expected to significantly improve connectivity, boost trade and tourism, and support economic growth across key districts in the state.

The long-pending Mamnoor Airport project in Warangal has now moved firmly onto the fast track. Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu has announced that the foundation stone for the airport will be laid within the next three months. The state government has already handed over the required land, indicating that major procedural and administrative hurdles have been resolved.

Once operational, Mamnoor Airport is expected to become Telangana’s second airport after Hyderabad. The project is seen as a major boost for the northern districts of the state, improving access for business travel, tourism, cargo movement, and logistics services.

In parallel, the proposed Adilabad airport project is also gaining momentum. The Centre is exploring a defence-civil aviation model, where the Ministry of Defence plans to establish a training facility while civil flight operations will be enabled through a dedicated enclave. The defence establishment already holds around 360 acres of land, while the state has been asked to acquire an additional 450 acres. The proposed runway is expected to handle Airbus A320 aircraft, making it suitable for regular commercial operations.

Further, the Peddapalli (Anthargam) airport proposal has received a positive pre-feasibility response, opening the door for the next stage of approvals. Given the industrial activity around Ramagundam, the airport could support both passenger and cargo movement in the future.

These projects underline the Centre’s larger push toward regional connectivity and infrastructure-led growth in Telangana, with airports playing a key role in driving investments and improving accessibility.
