CREDAI Chennai, in partnership with Shree Sai Healing Trust, has rolled out a city-wide cancer awareness and screening program aimed at improving the health and well-being of Chennai’s construction workforce. The initiative has been designed to bring healthcare directly to the doorsteps of thousands of workers, ensuring they have access to preventive medical services without disrupting their daily routines.
The program commenced this September at project sites of CREDAI Chennai member developers, with a target to screen nearly 5,000 construction workers during the month alone. By the end of 2025, the initiative aims to reach more than 20,000 workers across the city. This large-scale outreach highlights CREDAI Chennai’s commitment to prioritizing worker welfare, particularly among those who form the backbone of the real estate and construction industry.
At each construction site, free medical camps are being conducted, offering cancer screening, preventive care guidance, and health awareness sessions. Workers are educated on the importance of early detection, lifestyle changes, and regular medical check-ups to reduce risks associated with cancer. The camps also ensure that screenings are done in a way that minimizes disruption to work schedules, making healthcare both accessible and practical.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Mohamed Ali, President of CREDAI Chennai, emphasized, “Our construction workforce is the true foundation of our industry. Their health and well-being are of utmost importance. This program is a small but meaningful step to give back to those who play a vital role in building Chennai.”
Healthcare experts note that awareness programs such as this are essential in tackling the rising incidence of cancer in India, particularly among vulnerable sections of the workforce who may not otherwise have easy access to preventive medical care.
By extending such initiatives, CREDAI Chennai is setting an example for the industry, blending social responsibility with practical action. As the program expands in the months ahead, it is expected to not only improve worker health but also spread a culture of preventive healthcare within Chennai’s construction ecosystem.
