The government of Telangana has initiated the development of a mega urban-industrial hub measuring 765 sq. km at the southern fringes of Hyderabad called Bharat Future City. Under the new Future City Development Authority (FCDA), this project will be managed by the Chief Minister’s Office, A. Revanth Reddy.

Future Bharat City is India’s very first net-zero smart industrial city developed to merge Industry, Housing, and Civic Infrastructure for over 1 million residents. Global consortia will construct the master plan with a sharp focus on sustainability and inclusion.

The master plan includes dedicated industrial and knowledge clusters in artificial intelligence, life sciences, electronics manufacturing, electric vehicles, energy storage, tourism, film production, and healthcare. Knowledge infrastructure, research hubs, and skill development centres also form part of the plan.

The city, based on the “Live, Learn, Work, Play” model, will consist of walk-to-work residential clusters adjacent to large reserve forests, green spaces, and leisure zones. In contrast, there are also plans to develop hotels, resorts, and tourism facilities to enhance the economic and cultural perspective of Hyderabad.

Transport connectivity is strongly oriented. Within the city, there will be a metro line and Bus Rapid Transit Systems (BRTS); externally, they will connect with the Outer Ring Road, Srisailam Highway, and Nagarjunasagar Highway, leading to direct access to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

To garner investment, Bharat Future City is being promoted by the state as an initiative worthy of international funding support from undertake/join agencies like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the World Bank, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). These types of actions shall pull foreign partners, wherein the government is looking to make this project a pilot for future urban-industrial ecosystems in India.

The successful completion of Bharat Future City will not only allow Hyderabad to establish itself as a hub for advanced industries but also indicate of Telangana’s aspiration to foster ecologically sustainable, technology-led urban centres that harmonize development and environmental responsibility.
