Bengaluru’s iconic Kempegowda Bus Station at Majestic is poised for a historic transformation as the Karnataka government has approved a ₹1,500-crore redevelopment plan. The project aims to modernise one of India’s busiest transport hubs and create a future-ready transit ecosystem that supports the city’s fast-growing population and mobility needs.
Spread across 32 acres, the redevelopment will be carried out under a Public-Private Partnership model, ensuring both efficiency in execution and long-term sustainability. The modernisation will seamlessly integrate KSRTC and BMTC terminals, which currently handle massive daily footfalls. KSRTC serves nearly 80,000 passengers every day, while BMTC manages an overwhelming five lakh commuters across its extensive city bus network.
A major highlight of the new project is the creation of a fully integrated multimodal transport hub. Once completed, the revamped terminal will connect effortlessly with Namma Metro, the railway station and the suburban rail network. This will allow passengers to switch between modes of travel with minimal effort, reducing congestion, travel delays and long walking distances that currently burden commuters.
Beyond transport links, the plan includes the development of high-quality commercial spaces. These will be built and managed by the private partner, with revenue shared with KSRTC and BMTC. Commuters can expect organised retail outlets, food courts, comfortable seating areas, digital information systems and improved public amenities designed to elevate the overall travel experience.
Bengaluru’s bus network is among the country’s most active, with more than 11,150 buses operating daily. BMTC deploys around 8,200 buses, KSRTC manages 2,660 and other state road transport corporations run over 280 buses. With such a heavy load on Majestic’s infrastructure, officials believe that the upgrade will significantly streamline operations and enhance service reliability.
This redevelopment is being hailed not just as an infrastructure upgrade but as a complete reimagination of mobility in the heart of the city. When completed, Bengaluru’s Majestic is expected to emerge as a world-class, future-ready transit hub that reflects the city’s global aspirations.
