Aiming to address increasing congestion and decongest rising freight movement from industrial belts on the eastern periphery of Bengaluru, NHAI has come out with an elaborate proposal for improvements along the Bengaluru-Kolar stretch of National Highway-75.

This 69-km stretch would be widened from Hoskote (around 32 km from Bengaluru) towards Kolathur on the Andhra Pradesh state border into a 10-lane corridor consisting of six central lanes for through traffic and two outside service lanes aimed at easing the daily commute, facilitating freight movement, and linking better with regional policies and infrastructure.

This critical corridor will directly intersect with the proposed Satellite Town Ring Road and the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, parts of which are in operation.”The widening will relieve heavy traffic towards Kolar, Bangarpet, and Mulbagal, and facilitate cargo transportation to Narasapura industrial area,” said an official of NHAI. Controlled entry and exit points have also been planned for the proper management of vehicular flow and safety.

The Count of vehicles using Hoskote toll plaza on an average day is now greater than 45,000. Stretching KR Pura-Hoskote is grouped into the tight lanes. Another elevated corridor has been proposed under the government scheme for this segment, which is still under approval.

The work has already been executed at several sites. The construction of the Katamanallur flyover is 85% complete and partially open to the public already. Further, the 20-km stretch expressway link from Hoskote, near the Hosur link to Tamil Nadu, is nearing completion and is expected to be opened by August.

This highway expansion is expected to provide long-term connectivity, decrease travel times, and assist urban and industrial growth along Bengaluru’s eastern corridor.
