Bengaluru, often described as India’s technology capital, is preparing for one of its most ambitious infrastructure projects — a 110-kilometre elevated corridor designed to ease the city’s chronic traffic congestion. With an estimated cost of ₹18,000 crore, including ₹3,000 crore earmarked for land acquisition, the project has already cleared crucial approvals and is expected to begin construction in December.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority’s Technical Advisory Committee has approved the detailed project report, paving the way for state government clearance. Once final approval is granted, tenders will be awarded, and work will kick off within the next few months. The project will be executed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with toll charges to be levied on commuters.

Officials have confirmed that the corridor will be built entirely above ground, with carefully planned entry and exit points at strategic locations. Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE), the body overseeing the project, has studied successful models in other cities such as Nagpur and will adopt similar standards. For added strength and durability, the construction will use fiber-reinforced concrete technology, while pre-cast materials will be manufactured in factories to speed up the execution.

Unlike regular road-widening projects, this elevated corridor will act as an alternative expressway, linking the city’s major zones and outer regions. One of the most significant benefits will be direct connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport from Bengaluru’s eastern parts, reducing travel time drastically for daily commuters and flyers.

The corridor, which is expected to be completed within 25 months, is projected to provide a long-term solution to Bengaluru’s traffic woes. By decongesting arterial roads and creating seamless links across the city, the project is also expected to boost real estate development in peripheral areas and improve logistics efficiency.

As Bengaluru continues to expand as a global IT and business hub, infrastructure projects like this elevated corridor will be vital in shaping the city’s future growth and ensuring smoother urban mobility.
