The Andhra Pradesh government has earmarked Rs 40,887 crore for the development of trunk roads in the Amaravati Capital Region, marking a significant push toward strengthening core infrastructure in the state’s capital area. The announcement was made in the State Assembly by Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana in response to questions from legislators.

A major highlight of the allocation is the proposed 96 kilometre Inner Ring Road that will feature a combination of eight lane and four lane stretches. The project is designed to enhance regional connectivity, ease traffic movement and support the long term expansion of Amaravati as an administrative and economic hub. According to the Minister, the road network is targeted for completion by March 2027.

The Inner Ring Road project will be executed in two phases. The first phase will cover a 67 kilometre stretch between Ketanakonda and Nunna. The second phase will connect Nunna back to Ketanakonda, passing through forested areas near Kondapalli. Officials indicated that detailed planning has been undertaken to balance infrastructure growth with environmental considerations.

Funding for the ambitious project has been mobilised through a mix of global and domestic financial institutions, reflecting investor confidence in the state’s infrastructure roadmap. The trunk road network is expected to improve access to residential, commercial and institutional zones within the capital region.

The allocation forms part of the government’s broader strategy to accelerate infrastructure development and position Amaravati as a well connected capital city capable of attracting investment, generating employment and supporting sustained urban growth in the coming years.
