The development of Amaravati has received a significant boost after the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved the second phase of land acquisition aimed at accelerating some of the state’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. This approval marks an important milestone in the long term vision for building Amaravati as a modern administrative and economic hub.
According to Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, the government will acquire more than 16,000 acres of land from seven villages to support large scale public infrastructure. The identified villages include Vaikuntapuram, Pedda Madduru, Endrai, Karlapudi, Vaddamanuru, Harishchandrapuram and Peddaparimi. Of the 16,666 acres mapped for development, 7,562 acres will be drawn from the first four villages while the remaining 9,104.57 acres will come from the other three locations. In addition to this, around 3,828 acres of government land are available, although a considerable portion is hilly and may require detailed engineering evaluation.
A major focus of the newly acquired land will be the creation of key transport corridors that are central to Amaravati’s future connectivity. The inner ring road is one of the flagship projects expected to ease mobility across the planned capital region and support economic activity. The land will also facilitate the construction of a new railway station, new railway tracks and allied infrastructure which together aim to strengthen regional transport links.
One of the most notable expansions involves the upcoming international sports city. Originally allotted only 70 acres, the project has now been dramatically scaled up to 2,500 acres. The state government aims to build facilities capable of hosting national and international level sporting events, thereby positioning Amaravati as a sports destination in the coming years.
The Minister also confirmed that a comprehensive 30 year action plan has been prepared to align Amaravati’s growth with future urban standards. Farmers participating in the land pooling programme will receive residential and commercial plots along with regular lease payments, ensuring long term community benefits as the capital city evolves.
