In a major push to establish Amaravati as a tech and research hub, the Andhra Pradesh government has allocated 50 acres of land for a large-scale IT project India’s biggest quantum computing centre, known as the Quantum Valley project.
The state has partnered with leading technology and infrastructure firms IBM, TCS, and L&T for the initiative. IBM will spearhead the development of the quantum computing centre, while L&T will construct an iconic building to house the facility. TCS will be a key partner in the project, which is targeted for launch by January 2026.
“This is going to be one of the most prestigious institutions in the country,” said Municipal Administration Minister Dr. P. Narayana on Tuesday. He confirmed that the Group of Ministers (GoM) on capital city land allocations has cleared the project, in line with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision for Amaravati.
In addition to the quantum centre, the GoM has approved other strategic land allotments. The National Law University will receive 55 acres, and the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital, which already holds 15 acres, has been granted an additional six acres to support its new medical college.
Further allocations include:
- 70 cents to the Income Tax Department
- 78 cents to the Indian Red Cross Society
- 40 cents to Coastal Bank
- 1 acre to IRCTC for setting up a hotel
Minister Narayana stated that the government has so far allotted approximately 1,050 acres of land to 71 different institutions in Amaravati as part of efforts to accelerate the city’s development as a knowledge and services capital.
The Quantum Valley project is seen as a flagship initiative that could place Amaravati on the global technology map, leveraging cutting-edge research and collaboration with some of the world’s top tech firms.
