Adani Road Transport emerged as the highest bidder for managing an important four-lane, 124 km stretch of NH-38 that connects Trichy, Thuvarankurichi and Madurai, which was bid out through the TOT model for ₹1,692 crore.
This road section is part of the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) TOT Bundle 15, an initiative designed to boost infrastructure connectivity while raising funds for the country’s highway development. The move is aligned with NHAI’s broader efforts to generate revenue through road asset monetization, as part of its strategy to address financial needs and improve infrastructure.
The ₹1,692 crore bid will fund ongoing infrastructure projects. NHAI is seeking to raise ₹54,000 crore in fiscal year 2025 through the TOT model to develop infrastructure under its authority and also manage the ₹2.76 lakh crore of debt the authority carries today. It would enable the national highway network to remain long-term sustainable and expand with the private sector’s participation under the TOT model.
Acquisition of the NH-38 section by Adani Road Transport is likely to enhance the upkeep and operational efficiency of the road, thus making it much better connectivity for key cities in Tamil Nadu.
