India Cements Reports Improved Operating Performance

India Cements reported a 34.3% year-on-year increase in operating EBITDA to ₹148 crore during the second quarter of the 2026–27 financial year, supported by higher cement sales and improving operational efficiency across southern markets.

The Chennai-based cement manufacturer, now operating as a subsidiary of UltraTech Cement under the Aditya Birla Group, also recorded a 16.2% increase in local cement sales volume compared with the corresponding quarter last year.

According to the company’s latest investor presentation, the improvement reflects stronger sales momentum alongside continued efforts to manage operating expenses and streamline logistics.

Higher Sales Volume Supports Profitability

The double-digit growth in local cement sales volume indicates improving demand across the company’s operating markets. Construction activity, residential development and infrastructure projects remain important drivers of cement consumption in southern India.

Operating EBITDA grew faster than sales volume, suggesting improved operating performance during the quarter. However, profitability remains sensitive to cement prices, transportation expenses, fuel costs and competitive pressures.

The company’s focus on operational discipline and logistics optimisation has helped strengthen profitability across southern markets. Efficient transportation and distribution are particularly important for cement manufacturers because freight represents a significant component of operating costs.

UltraTech Integration and Southern Market Outlook

India Cements now operates as a subsidiary of UltraTech Cement, part of the Aditya Birla Group, following UltraTech’s acquisition of a controlling stake in the company.

The integration places India Cements within a larger cement manufacturing network, potentially creating opportunities for improved operational coordination, procurement efficiencies and stronger distribution capabilities.

Southern India remains an important cement market, supported by ongoing infrastructure investment, housing construction and industrial development.

However, competition among cement producers, seasonal demand fluctuations and volatility in thermal coal and petcoke prices could influence profitability in the coming quarters.

India Cements second-quarter performance highlights progress in sales growth and operating profitability. Sustaining this momentum will depend on market demand, pricing conditions and continued cost management.
