JSW Steel Coated Products Limited has awarded a major engineering and technology contract to John Cockerill for setting up a high-capacity Cold Rolling Complex at Rajpura in Punjab. The new facility will have an annual production capacity of around 600,000 tonnes and is expected to strengthen JSW Steel’s downstream coated steel business in India.

The upcoming Cold Rolling Complex will include a Semi-Continuous Pickling Line, a Twin Stand Cold Rolling Mill and a Continuous Galvanizing Line. The project forms part of JSW Steel’s strategy to enhance production efficiency, improve coated steel quality and expand its presence in automotive, appliance and construction steel segments.

According to the company, the pickling line has been designed to reduce acid consumption and lower environmental impact while maintaining high product quality standards. The Twin Stand Cold Rolling Mill is expected to deliver better strip quality, tighter thickness control and improved operational efficiency. This will be the third Twin Stand mill supplied by John Cockerill within the JSW Group.

The Continuous Galvanizing Line will support the production of advanced coated steel products required by modern manufacturing industries. John Cockerill stated that its global expertise across more than 150 galvanizing lines and over 100 cold rolling mills worldwide would support the successful execution of the Rajpura project.

Industry observers believe the investment will help JSW Steel strengthen its value-added steel portfolio at a time when demand for high-quality coated steel products continues to rise across India’s infrastructure, real estate and automotive sectors.

Frederic Martin, Managing Director of John Cockerill India Limited, said the project marks another important milestone in the company’s long-standing relationship with JSW Steel Coated Products. He added that advanced processing technologies and sustainable operations would help improve product quality, operational reliability and long-term value creation for the Indian steel industry.

The project also reflects the growing investments being made by Indian steel companies in downstream steel processing and advanced manufacturing infrastructure.
