Andhra Pradesh is moving ahead with plans to develop a Singapore-style integrated township in Amaravati as part of its long-term strategy to transform the state capital region into a major urban and economic hub. The proposal was discussed during meetings held in Singapore by Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh with officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and members of the Joint Implementation Steering Committee.
According to the state government, the proposed township will be modelled on Singapore’s Punggol district and is expected to become a benchmark urban infrastructure project for India. The larger vision also includes the development of the Amaravati Economic Region with support from Singapore in areas such as integrated urban planning, digital governance and trade connectivity.

Nara Lokesh stated that Amaravati now enjoys national legal recognition as the capital of Andhra Pradesh, which is expected to improve investor confidence and accelerate infrastructure development across the region. The state government has already invited Requests for Proposals from interested partners for the Amaravati Economic Region project.
Discussions during the Singapore visit also focused on improving trade links between Andhra Pradesh and Southeast Asian markets through Singapore. The minister proposed the creation of a blockchain-enabled digital trade corridor connecting Singapore with Visakhapatnam or Krishnapatnam ports to strengthen exports in sectors such as seafood, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and minerals.
The Andhra Pradesh government is also preparing a dedicated MICE policy to boost international conferences, exhibitions and tourism infrastructure in cities including Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. Four convention centres have already been approved for Amaravati, while a large MICE facility is planned in Visakhapatnam in partnership with the India Trade Promotion Organisation.
Officials believe the integrated township project could significantly improve urban infrastructure and position Amaravati as a globally connected economic and business destination in southern India.
