Larsen & Toubro L&T has announced a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to develop gigawatt scale AI data centre infrastructure in India under the ambitious IndiaAI Mission. The collaboration marks a significant step in building sovereign computing capacity and accelerating India’s transformation into a global artificial intelligence powerhouse.
The proposed venture will combine L&T’s deep expertise in engineering, infrastructure execution and large scale project management with NVIDIA’s advanced AI computing platforms and GPU technologies. Together, the companies aim to create production ready AI infrastructure that supports enterprises, policymakers and global customers seeking reliable high performance computing anchored in India.
The initiative is designed to move the country beyond pilot projects and experimentation toward full scale AI deployment across critical sectors such as manufacturing, energy, financial services, healthcare and public administration. By enabling high density GPU clusters and scalable data centre ecosystems, the project is expected to provide predictable performance, enhanced security and faster time to value for industrial and digital applications.
As part of the expansion plan, L&T will scale up AI ready capacity at its Chennai campus while also advancing a new data centre development in Mumbai. These facilities will support both domestic requirements and international demand, positioning India as a strategic hub for advanced computing.
The partnership aligns with the broader vision of the IndiaAI Mission, which seeks to democratise access to computing resources, promote indigenous AI innovation and strengthen digital infrastructure across the country. By building a nationally accessible GPU backbone, the initiative aims to reduce dependence on external ecosystems and encourage local research, startups and enterprise adoption.
With AI driving the next wave of industrial and economic growth, the L&T and NVIDIA collaboration represents a foundational investment in India’s digital future, reinforcing its ambition to emerge as a leading global centre for artificial intelligence development and deployment.
