Ranipet district is poised to witness a historic industrial transformation with the inauguration of its first-ever car manufacturing plant at the SIPCOT industrial complex in Panapakkam village. The landmark facility will be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on February 9, underscoring the state’s continued push to strengthen its position as a leading automotive and manufacturing hub in India.

The new manufacturing unit represents a massive investment of approximately Rs 9,000 crore and spans nearly 470 acres within the SIPCOT industrial estate. Developed as a joint manufacturing facility of Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors, the plant holds special significance as it will be the first facility in India to manufacture luxury Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, including electric models, alongside other Tata Motors vehicles. The plant is designed to cater to both domestic and international markets, with all key components planned to be manufactured within the same complex.

Ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit, extensive preparations are underway in the district. Minister for Handlooms and Textiles and Ranipet MLA R. Gandhi, along with District Collector J U Chandrakala and Superintendent of Police Ayman Jamal, recently inspected the site to review arrangements. Civic infrastructure works, including relaying of bitumen roads leading to the SIPCOT complex and removal of uneven speed breakers, are being carried out to ensure smooth traffic movement and security during the inauguration.

Beyond manufacturing, the project is expected to deliver significant socio-economic benefits to the region. The car plant is projected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, providing a major boost to local livelihoods and ancillary industries. In addition, a footwear park with an estimated investment of Rs 400 crore is also coming up in the region, further strengthening Ranipet’s industrial ecosystem.

With this development, Ranipet is set to emerge as a key node in Tamil Nadu’s expanding automotive corridor, reinforcing the state’s reputation for investor-friendly policies, skilled manpower and robust industrial infrastructure.
