As India’s mining and construction equipment markets are on a course to treble from $16 billion to $45 billion by 2030, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has launched a new lineup of BharatBenz heavy-duty trucks aimed at providing the edge to the next phase of infrastructure development.
This new series includes HX series for construction and Torqshift for mining, which was launched formally on Wednesday. Starting from ₹56 lakh (ex-showroom), these trucks have been field-tested across the most rugged terrains in India with over 150 units deployed in real field trials at the most demanding construction and mining sites.
These trucks provided substantial improvements during trials by customers in terms of uptime, operational efficiency, and profitability. Therefore, paving the way for full-fledged production, DICV stated. At present, it commands a market share of more than 50% of India’s construction and mining truck segment.
The MD and CEO of DICV, Satyakam Arya, pointed out a market shift. “Big contractors are moving towards owning asset portfolios for higher control and long-term value. A major part of the fleets is of age 8-10 years and ripe for replacement. It is a critical moment for the sector.”
Arya added that the new BharatBenz trucks have been extensively validated and proven to improve business cases. “These are not mere trucks – they are profit engines built for India’s growth story.”
“A direct customer input was used to engineer the new HX series,” said Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President and CTO at DICV. “They demanded higher payload capacity, faster turnaround, and reduced maintenance, and we delivered just that.”
He further added that the new models meet full EU ECE R29-03 safety standards, offering best-in-class protection for drivers a field often overlooked in the heavy-duty segments.
With infrastructure and mining activity set to gain momentum in the coming years, Daimler’s BharatBenz appears likely to fortify its lead in the high-performance commercial vehicle sector.
