The much-awaited Bengaluru Peripheral Ring Road project resumed its progress now as the Bangalore Development Authority issued notifications to the owners of agricultural properties in several villages to re-acquire these lands. These are indeed massive steps to make the long-buried decades-old plan aimed at increasing Bengaluru’s connectivity.
The 40-kilometer stretch, PRR-2, will run parallel to the NICE Road, linking the key highways along the city’s periphery, namely Mysuru Road, Hosur Road, and Tumakuru Road. This project promises to bypass congested urban areas, thereby easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity for commuters traveling to and from the city.
The project had started gaining momentum in December 2005 with the preliminary notification issued by BDA. With time, the progress came to a standstill, and the project continued to remain at a standstill. Now, after years of delay, BDA has renewed its efforts with notices served to farmers in villages like Bylakonenahalli, KJ Lakkenahalli, Gangondahalli, Lakshmipura, and Dombarahalli. These notices signal a renewed effort to complete the project.
Once completed, PRR-2 is expected to reduce the load on the city’s existing roads and will offer an efficient route for long-distance travelers. It will also facilitate easy access to industrial areas, thus helping in the growth and urban development of Bengaluru.
It has brought hope among the stakeholders that the project now would finally make headway toward completion, which has been put on the back burner for years. Completion of PRR-2 may revolutionize how people commute in and around Bengaluru and deliver much-needed relief to the crowded roads of the city.
