With Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) spearheading it, the Bengaluru new Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) is getting closer to its completion and promises to change the face of travel into Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) once and for all. The new road will allow easy access directly from several districts like Tumkur, Chennai, and even the areas on the other side of Andhra Pradesh, saving travelers from navigating the usual choked roads through Yelahanka.

The 155-km STRR that is being built on the fringes of Bengaluru is envisioned as a fast, smooth way to the airport. The new road, linking Budigere Cross near Devanahalli with the airport, will service both local passengers and industrial trucks coming from the adjacent states. Once completed, commuters will be able to avoid the traffic congestion of central Bengaluru and reach the airport faster, especially those coming from East Bengaluru, Tumkur, and Tamil Nadu.

At present, 125 kilometers of the STRR have been completed and all the remaining 4.5 kilometers are expected to be completed by July 2025. This last stretch of road will connect the vital areas of the city, which includes Hoskote, Whitefield, Attibele, and Anekal. Easy routes will also give parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, so vehicles from these regions will travel directly to the airport.

This ambitious road project initiated in 2018-19 with a budget of Rs. 2200 crore, is expected to be fully operational by December 2025. The completed sections already include the vital 20-km stretch connecting the airport. However, land acquisition issues remain in the Mailhalli and Singhhalli villages, and an alternative route is required for a 1 km stretch near Bettakote due to forest area constraints.

The project is expected to alleviate traffic bottlenecks and offer smoother travel to both local and out-of-state passengers, providing a hassle-free journey to the airport. Residents and businesses are optimistic about the benefits. Ganesh, a hotelier in the area, believes the road will be a game-changer for commuters. “Once the road is operational, it will eliminate the dependency on Bengaluru city roads. People will be able to reach the airport without the usual traffic hassles,” he said.
