Andhra CM Naidu unveils major action plan for Visakha Economic Region from Srikakulam to Konaseema

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the development of the Visakha Economic Region (VER), an ambitious corridor stretching from Srikakulam to Konaseema districts. This strategic initiative is aimed at positioning Andhra Pradesh as a key player in industrial, port-based, and technological growth across India’s eastern coast.

During a high-level review meeting, Naidu emphasized that the Visakha Economic Region would serve as the state’s economic powerhouse, integrating ports, industries, logistics, and IT infrastructure under a unified vision. The plan seeks to attract investments worth around $115 billion (₹9.5 lakh crore) from both the Central government and private players.

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of enhancing cargo handling capacity at Mulapet and Kakinada ports, which play a critical role in serving neighbouring states like Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra. He also instructed officials to expedite the East-West Coastal Corridor project, which will significantly improve connectivity and boost trade efficiency along the Andhra coast.

A strong focus will be placed on green energy and sustainability projects, aligning with the government’s long-term goal of achieving low-carbon industrial development. Naidu also stressed the need for creating an investor-friendly environment through transparent policies, efficient governance, and robust infrastructure planning.

Visakhapatnam, often referred to as the “City of Destiny,” is set to play a central role in this transformation. The upcoming Google AI Data Centre is expected to make Visakhapatnam a global IT hub, while ongoing healthcare infrastructure investments could turn the city into a major medical and wellness destination for South India.

The proposed Visakha Economic Region is expected to not only attract global investors but also generate large-scale employment and foster inclusive regional development. With the government’s clear vision and proactive measures, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a major hub for innovation, industry, and sustainable growth in the years to come.
