Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a massive ₹2 lakh crore investment to expand the national highway network in Telangana over the next four years.

Speaking at public meetings in Amberpet and Sirpur Kagaznagar on Monday, Gadkari said the infrastructure boost aims to transform connectivity across the state. “In the last 10.5 years, Telangana has seen over 2,600 km of new national highways, more than doubling the 2,500 km existing before 2014. This came at a cost of ₹1.25 lakh crore,” he stated.

The Minister inaugurated several key projects in Hyderabad, including the BHEL and Amberpet flyovers, and laid foundation stones for others, with a combined outlay of ₹6,100 crore.

Highlighting ongoing major corridors, Gadkari detailed:

  • A 770-km Green Expressway connecting Indore and Hyderabad, passing through Kamareddy, Medak, and Sangareddy, is expected to be operational next year.
  • A 1,100-km stretch of the Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari highway corridor passing through Telangana via Surat, Nashik, Sholapur, Kurnool, and Chennai.
  • A 221-km Suryapet-Devarapalli greenfield highway (₹8,000 crore)
  • A 164-km Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam highway (₹6,040 crore)
  • A 565-km Nagpur-Vijayawada route (₹16,000 crore)
  • A 401-km Asifabad to Khammam corridor via Mancherial, Bhupalpally, Hanamkonda, and Warangal (₹13,300 crore)

“The time to travel from Telangana districts to Hyderabad has dropped from 12 hours to just 4-5. With upcoming projects, distances will shrink further,” Gadkari said.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy further stated that road expansion continues to be at the core of the Modi government’s growth strategy, with parallel investments in railways, ports, and airports.

Telangana Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy demanded early work on the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway expansion. BJP leaders such as Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman and Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender were also present.
