Tamil Nadu Announces 9 New SIDCO Industrial Estates in Budget 2025-26

Thangam Thennarasu, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister in the Assembly today presented the State Budget for the year 2025-26 with a focus on enhancing industrial development for creating jobs for people across the state.

The key proposals in the budget include the setting up of nine new industrial estates under the Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO). At an expense of Rs. 366 crore, these estates will be installed in Kancheepuram-Thirumudivakkam, Villupuram-Saram, Nayakkanur, Karur-Nagampally, Trichy-Suriyur, Madurai-Karthapuliyampatti, Ramanathapuram-Thanichiyam, Thanjavur-Naduvur and Tirunelveli-Narasinganallur. The government says the 174,000 industrial hubs will create about 17,500 jobs.

Besides, the state government is also going to establish an Engineering and Textile Industrial Park in Trichy. Covering an area of 250 acres, this park will generate 5,000 job opportunities. Further, Rs. 250 crore will be spent to create a focused Footwear Industrial Park in Madurai and Cuddalore, which is expected to generate 20,000 jobs.

The Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission was also announced with an initial investment of Rs. 10 crore as a pusher to the semiconductor industry in the state. This move is aimed at establishing the state as a critical player in India’s burgeoning semiconductor sector.

The government has also announced the setting up of Chief Minister (CM) squads in all municipal corporations to improve governance and effectively deal with civic issues. Each of these 30 squads will be set up with a Rs. 5 crore allocation for the betterment of urban administration and service delivery.

These budget announcements reiterate the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to industrial expansion, employment generation and infrastructure development, and place Tamil Nadu on a pedestal as a major investment destination for the country.
