Telangana government announced the construction of Greenfield Radial Road, named ‘Ratan Tata Road’ in a historical move to improve connectivity and promote urban development. The new expressway will connect the Tata Interchange at Raviryal on Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the Regional Ring Road (RRR) at Amangal at a cost of around ₹4,030 crore.

With a length of 41.5 km, will be built in six mandals – Maheshwaram, Ibrahimpatnam, Kandukur, Yacharam, Kadthal, and Amangal of about 14 villages in the Rangareddy district. The project is designed in two phases. Phase I, to be constructed at a cost of ₹1,665 crore, will be 19.2 kilometers and stretch from ORR at Raviryal (Tata Interchange) to Meerkhanpet. Phase II (22.3 km from Meerkhanpet at RRR, Amangal): ₹2,365 crore

The access-controlled expressway will be 100 metres wide and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) will spearhead its construction. Will initially consist of a 6-lane main carriageway (3+3), with an 8-lane configuration (4 +4) to be built at a later date depending on traffic requirements.

The centrepiece of this Ratan Tata Road is a 20-metre-wide median, currently vacant for vertical grass or pavements but to eventually be earmarked for a potential metro or railway corridor, by the government’s long-term urban mobility objectives. Service roads, greenbelt, cycle tracks, footpaths and utility corridors on both sides of the expressway will ensure sustainable transport infrastructure.

The project would reduce time by at least 8-10 hours for commuting from ORR to RRR. It would also ease traffic congestion and would boost economic activity in the adjoining areas. The Telangana CM also announced a road, Ratan Tata Road to be built in the state after notable industrialist Ratan Tata was instrumental in the development of India for many years.
