India’s highway construction sector is witnessing a rare blend of scale, speed and ambition as work progresses on NH-544G, a key stretch of the Bengaluru–Vijayawada Economic Corridor. The project, located between Vanavolu and Vankarakunta in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district, has drawn attention for its attempt to set multiple Guinness World Records during execution.
District Collector A. Shyam Prasad and Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar recently inspected the site to review progress and safety arrangements. Officials said the district administration is extending full support to ensure uninterrupted construction while maintaining strict quality standards. The inspection comes at a time when the project contractor has set aggressive targets rarely seen in highway development.
The stretch is being executed by Raj Path Infracon Private Limited, which has announced plans to attempt four Guinness World Records through the project. The most ambitious target is the construction of a continuous 52-km bituminous road within seven days without interruption. The highway is being laid as an 11.5-metre-wide, three-lane carriageway, translating into an equivalent of 156 km in single-lane terms.
According to the company, the record attempts include continuous bituminous road construction within a fixed timeframe, usage of the highest quantity of bituminous concrete, the longest road laid within 24 hours, and the maximum quantity of bituminous concrete used in a single day. Nearly 600 engineers, supervisors and workers are deployed round the clock to meet these goals, supported by high-capacity machinery and logistics planning.
NH-544G forms an important part of the Bengaluru–Vijayawada Economic Corridor, a strategic infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The corridor is expected to enhance freight movement, reduce travel time, and support industrial and logistics growth across southern India.
Infrastructure experts note that such record-driven execution reflects the increasing emphasis on speed and efficiency in India’s highway programmes. While Guinness attempts bring visibility, authorities have stressed that safety, durability and adherence to specifications remain non-negotiable.
If successful, the project could set new benchmarks for large-scale road construction in India, demonstrating how coordination between government agencies and private contractors can deliver complex infrastructure within challenging timelines.
