Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has made a notable milestone in its Phase II expansion, as it has completed the grade separator work on Corridor 4 that extends 26.1 km from Light House Station to Poonamallee Depot. This is an important advancement in bettering the metro connectivity of the city and to reducing the traffic clog.

Key Construction Progress

CMRL has completed the grade separator road work at Mullaithottam and Karayanchavadi stations and efforts to decongest traffic till March 1, 2025, have borne fruits. A motor trolley was successfully transported from Poonamallee Depot to Mullaithottam Station (Pier No 424 – the starting point for the grade separator) in anticipation of being operationally ready. The handing over of the project typically indicates the utter significance of CMRL towards the timely execution of infrastructure projects.

“Data Engineers” in the World of Telecommunications

A key part of the advancement is the effective exchange of the Road cum Rail Vehicle (RRV) from Poonamallee Depot to Mullaithottam Station. RRV plays a widespread role in controlling the Overhead Equipment (OHE) works, as the significant electrical and operational actions will not page the work. It is a critical step as Corridor 4 gets ready for its planned launch.

Senior Ranks Monitor Progress of Projects

The CMRL senior officials include Thiru. T. Archunan Director (Projects), Thiru. S. Ashok Kumar, CGM (Track & Elevated), Thiru. A. R. Rajendran, CGM (Rolling Stock) and Latief Khan Mohammad, Chief Project Manager-GC (Track), also inspected the site. The visit was aimed at keeping the pace and quality of construction work on time.

Timeline: Metro Services by Late 2025

CMRL has been expediting civil construction works from Porur to Poonamallee Depot to launch passenger services by the end of 2025. When finished, Phase II is expected, to significantly cut travel times, better access to public transport, and cater to sustainable urban growth.

Leg up for property and town improvement

Also, the ongoing Phase II of Chennai Metro, which is making steady progress will help increase demand for real estate and facilitate transit-oriented development in Chennai. As metro systems proliferate across India, Chennai’s commitment to creating a commuter-friendly transport system is setting the pace for other cities. The completion of Corridor 4 will revolutionise the urban commuting ecosystem of the city.
