Chennai Corporation to Overhaul Three Crucial Junctions at Rs 78 Crore Investment

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has taken its urban development process to the next level with the announcement of a mega redevelopment plan for three vital junctions in the city, estimated at a whopping Rs 78.57 crores Infrastructural Improvement and Public Place Enhancement for Better City Life.

The redevelopment works would cover the Race Course Link Road in Adyar (Zone 13), Shastri Nagar First Avenue, and Pulla Avenue in Anna Nagar (Zone 8). Official sources said tenders for these works would be invited in March and that the e-bidding will be held on March 27 at the Tender Inviting Authority Office in Ripon Building. The interested contractors have to submit their documents by March 28.

Break-Up of Redevelopment Projects

1. Race Course Link Road: It involves the junction from Velachery Main Road to Race Course Road for major rectification at an estimated cost of Rs 20.11 crore. This should see improvement in traffic flow in the area and is an access upgrade.
2. Shastri Nagar First Avenue: Redevelopment work will be undertaken from the junction of LB Road to Besant Nagar bus stand junction on a budget of Rs 20.32 crore. This has been done so that the space is decongested and made more walkable.
3. Pulla Avenue, Anna Nagar: The largest development program will take place at Pulla Avenue which lies between the Poonamallee High Road junction and the Kilpauk Garden Road junction. Rs 38.14 crore has been sanctioned for the project that would see an utter changeover at the locality.
   Besides the infrastructure improvement, this GCC also includes plans to create these junctions as leisure facilities so that even residents can better access and relate to them more easily. Therefore, this restructuring is part of a larger, overall strategy involving the modernizing of Chennai roads and public amenities for better transportation and pedestrian spaces.
