ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India to Raise Availability of Construction Steels with the newly commissioned hot strip mill, the major steel company that is jointly owned by ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, AM/NS India has begun constructing its new ₹60,000 crore plant at Hazira in Gujarat from which the present production capability will soar from the present 9 MTPA to 15 MTPA by the time it commences commercial operations there in 2025.
This will support the company to strengthen its position of becoming one of the biggest suppliers in this yellow goods area, which addresses construction equipment.
As per the company’s Director, Ranjan Dhar of AM/NS India, “The company already is a significant supplier to some of the leading OEMs including Tata Hitachi, JCB India, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hyundai and Volvo.” The industry was $9.5 billion in FY24 and would grow with a CAGR of 14 percent on investment in roads, highways, urban infrastructure, and mining to $25 billion by FY30.
AM/NS India has attained 100 percent import substitution for this niche segment of high-precision abrasion-resistant steel and plates, directed at construction equipment.
This development has also allowed OEMs to transform India into a manufacturing and export hub for construction equipment and components. For instance, 30-40% of components used by JCB UK are now sourced from India.
