Ambuja Cements Limited, part of the Adani Portfolio, has announced plans to set up a modern cement grinding unit within the industrial estate of Adani Gangavaram Port in Andhra Pradesh. The upcoming facility, spread across eight hectares, marks another step in Ambuja’s commitment to sustainable growth and green industrial practices.
The proposed unit will be established within the port’s designated industrial zone, eliminating the need for new land acquisition. Designed as an eco-smart facility, the plant will focus on resource efficiency, low emissions, and environmental stewardship. It will utilize industrial by-products such as slag and fly ash sourced from nearby steel and power plants, thereby supporting the principles of a circular economy.
In a statement released on Saturday, the company highlighted that key raw materials such as clinker and gypsum will be transported through rail and sea routes — the most energy-efficient and sustainable modes of freight movement. This approach will not only reduce logistics costs but also significantly cut carbon emissions, aligning with Ambuja’s broader decarbonization goals.
The project has been categorized under the “Orange Category” due to its minimal environmental footprint. The facility will operate without fuel combustion or chemical processing and will be equipped with advanced dust control technologies such as high-efficiency baghouses, filters, and mechanized road sweepers to maintain a clean, dust-free operational environment.
Additionally, the plant has been designed for minimal water usage and will adopt a zero-liquid discharge system to preserve local water resources and maintain ecological balance. The initiative perfectly aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s industrial and infrastructure ambitions while strengthening Ambuja’s national presence, especially after crossing the 100 MTPA cement capacity milestone in FY25.
With Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated net-zero targets and a CDP Leadership score of A–, Ambuja Cements continues to demonstrate that industrial growth can coexist with environmental responsibility. The new unit at Adani Gangavaram Port reinforces the company’s vision of achieving sustainable expansion through innovation, efficiency, and eco-conscious operations.
