Chennai based deep-tech startup Tvasta incubated at IIT Madras revolutionizes the construction industry with India’s first 3D-printed villa. A futuristic project designed in Pune for Godrej Properties makes use of 3D printing technology in contemporary construction giving scope to futuristic forms and completion of projects in a shorter time.
Tvasta’s innovative automated construction goes beyond aesthetics they have sustainable solutions that reuse excess waste material from construction and other industries. The 3D-printed walls of the villa have great insulation, resulting in lower energy consumption and utility costs. Co-founder Parivarthan Reddy said the project was “pushing the boundaries of conventional building design” with unique architectural features like patterned walls and complex structural forms.
Customization of homes to individual requirements, resulting in unique designs with better functionality is one of the most prominent advantages of 3D printing in construction. The technology also reduces material waste, making it a more environmentally friendly option for housing. When blended with cement, the resultant material enhances structural robustness, thereby contributing to the longevity and sustainability of buildings.
Expanding beyond India, Tvasta has made a mark in the international market by selling 3D construction printers in the US and West Asia. The company recently provided mobile 3D printers to North Carolina’s TNT Development Company for workforce housing and to Virginia Tech for affordable housing projects.
In addition to residential construction, Tvasta has been involved in diverse infrastructure projects. It has manufactured 3D-printed bus shelters for municipalities, boundary walls for Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, and marine structures. The company has recently obtained regulatory approval from the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council under its performance appraisal certification scheme, cementing its position as an industry leader. With a foundation of IIT Madras alumni, Tvasta was established in 2016 and continues to challenge the status quo of construction through faster, sustainable and affordable solutions. The startup is poised to disrupt the future of construction, enabling 3D printing technology to achieve significant growth and global scalability.
