Stalin, now CM of Tamil Nadu, has announced an integrated approach to the development of the town transforming Parandur into a well-planned modern city. Stalin observed that Parandur airport would trigger economic growth, development in infrastructure, and a better quality of life for the people when he addressed the participants at the FAIR PRO 2025 realty expo organized by CREDAI in Chennai.
It is learned that a consultant has been appointed by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) for the preparation of the town development plan, which will outline the major infrastructure projects from metro connectivity to an aero city, a cargo village, residential and commercial developments and critical social infrastructure such as schools and hospitals. Other elements of the plan include environmental sustainability or a regulatory framework for urban expansion.
Decongesting Chennai and Shaping Sustainable Growth:
Stalin noted that similar town development plans for other growth centres in the making are in the pipeline for Thirumazhisai, Minjur, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, Mamallapuram and Maraimalai Nagar. It also seeks to alleviate congestion in Chennai, develop economic hubs, and improve transport links across the area.
Urban development planning saw no significant changes in the last decade, but our government will revolutionize it,” a CMDA official said.
Plans to develop 136 cities including Coimbatore, Madurai, Hosur, Salem, Tirupur, Trichy, Vellore and Tirunelveli, besides Parandur, are also underway. Plans for Hosur have already been released, while those for Coimbatore and Madurai are expected to come out next month.
Real Estate & Infrastructure Sector Boost:
As part of reducing congestion in Central Chennai, there are three new suburban bus terminals at Kilambakkam, Madhavaram and Kuthambakkam. Already set to be operational soon is the Kuthambakkam terminal, with state-of-the-art transport hubs in Chengalpet and Mamallapuram due to open next year.
With a single-window clearance as well as an online building permission system, project approvals have jumped 45%, department sources said, adding that approval timelines have gone from 180 days to 64-90 days.
Tamil Nadu has seen an 8% annual rise in RERA units registered and 20% demand for plotted layouts and the Parandur project is likely to help accelerate the urban and economic growth of the state.
