Coimbatore is likely to become a hub of technological innovation as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin Thursday announced the two-million sq. ft. IT park focusing on artificial intelligence, in a project to be built as a PPP. He announced this project at the summit, Umagine TN 2025, underlining the determination of the State to lead technology and digital service provision.

The new park, Stalin said, drew inspiration from the iconic Tidel Park, based in Chennai, which was launched during the reign of then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. “Now we move up the next step of information technology and digital services,” he said. He also highlighted that the new park is in line with Tamil Nadu’s vision to drive successful economic growth and employment through the power of AI, and digital technological solutions.

The Chief Minister said that the development of IT infrastructure in tier-II and tier-III cities, would continue balanced growth across the state of Tamil Nadu. Therefore, Coimbatore, similar to Salem, Madurai, Trichy, Hosur, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Villupuram, and Thoothukudi would have focused plans to enhance their level of tech development. It also forms part of a larger process of providing equal opportunity for youth living across the states and creating opportunities for employment across the state as well.

The government is developing a new technology policy to facilitate innovation and entrepreneurship in emerging tech domains such as AI, blockchain, and data analytics, in support of these structural initiatives. A new policy in this regard is likely to come very shortly.

The Tamil Nadu government has not only been committed to the infrastructural development sector but has also, in terms of MoUs with top companies, planned 13 to give skills training to its youth. Invested at a price of ₹78 crore, it aims at readying this youth generation towards technological opportunities as is available, according to global requirements.

The announcement highlights the commitment of Tamil Nadu to becoming a leader in digital transformation while making sure that such development is inclusive in the state.Coimbatore is likely to become a hub of technological innovation as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.
