Telangana Approves Rs 673 Crore to Accelerate Hyderabad City Infrastructure Project and Metro Expansion

The Telangana state government has granted administrative approval for a Rs 673 crore outlay to implement the Hyderabad City Infrastructure project, a major initiative designed to strengthen mobility, reduce traffic congestion and enhance overall urban connectivity within the rapidly expanding capital region. This comprehensive urban mobility plan aims to address long standing traffic bottlenecks through coordinated development of key corridors and junctions across the city.

As part of the project, authorities have outlined the construction of 19 flyovers, six major roads, grade separators and underpasses at six carefully identified high traffic locations. These works will be executed in multiple phases to ensure minimal disruption to daily commuters while steadily improving road capacity and safety. Officials stated that the project is expected to significantly ease congestion in high density localities while supporting smoother inter city travel as Hyderabad continues to grow as a leading economic and technology hub.

In addition to road and junction upgrades, the state government has approved funding support for the extension of the Hyderabad Metro Rail network. Land acquisition is progressing for the 7.5 kilometre stretch between Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station and Chandrayangutta, a corridor that plays a crucial role in connecting old city neighbourhoods with major transit hubs. Most commercial establishments along the route have accepted the compensation offered by the government while a few properties are still in the negotiation stage. Authorities remain confident that the acquisition process will be completed in a timely manner to avoid delays in construction.

The proposed Metro extension is expected to transform public transportation in the southern part of the city by improving access, reducing dependency on road traffic and offering commuters a reliable alternative. When combined with the flyovers, roads and underpasses planned under the Hyderabad City Infrastructure project, the overall initiative marks one of the most extensive mobility upgrades undertaken in recent years.

With these approvals, the Telangana government aims to create a more efficient transport ecosystem that supports future urban growth, boosts economic activity and enhances the daily travel experience of millions of residents.
